Luke Sinnott is a former Army captain whose life changed in 2010 after losing both his legs in an explosion while serving in Afghanistan. This paved the way for Luke’s career as a professional para-athlete. He has competed as an Invictus Games competitor, at the Para Athletics World Championships and European Championships.
In July 2023, Luke was set to compete in the world championships in Paris however, Luke faced challenges when it came to attaching his running blade to the socket. This led Luke to look for a solution to adapt his existing equipment. Before engaging with CRM CAD, Luke explored several avenues, including reaching out to various engineering companies. However, these attempts were hindered by the requirement for an initial design to kickstart the process.
When Luke reached out to the CRM CAD team it was an exciting prospect for everyone involved. There was potential for Luke to kick start the process to getting the adaptations while the team were eager to rise to the challenge and work on something totally different.
The collaboration consisted of 3D drawings been designed and prototypes made using a 3D printer. It was the imperative that the bracket was a light weight and robust design. It was also important to Luke to have a design with the right angles and rigidity to maximise his competitive level.
The newly designed bracket proved to be a game-changer for Luke. With the assistance of CRM CAD, Luke achieved personal bests twice since implementing the new bracket, highlighting the tangible impact on his athletic career.
Throughout the process, Luke was thoroughly impressed with the level of support and expertise offered by the CRM CAD team, with admiration for Craig. Craig's profound understanding of CAD software, complemented by his extensive knowledge of design and engineering functionality, stood out to Luke. He appreciated Craig's collaborative approach and the generous amount of time he dedicated to the project. As a result, Luke's vision was realised effectively, efficiently, and within the agreed-upon timeframe.
